Slumber

to: the american church

re: your slumber

depart from Me, I never knew you
your cracked veneer over rotten pews
pasted smiles and calculated hearts
pious in healing of your own scars

seeking morality and calling it god
taking My Word and running roughshod
you’re nice, happy and nothing is wrong
afraid to admit, a sinner all along

a sleeping virgin, clean out of oil
like a thief I come, amidst your toil
AWAKEN MY BRIDE, AWAKE!
from your slumber, awake

rebuild your walls, stand your post
forget yourself and welcome the Ghost
seek My will alone, not yours or men
or slave for approval, slave to your end

you left your first love, repent and return
a gracious Lord I AM, this you will learn
awaken your hearts and pick up your cross
all the good you are, consider it loss

awaken and revive, return to My word
your culture speaks, forget what you’ve heard
liars and wolves, to lead you astray
focus on Jesus, enduring to the Day
